Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard appointed an independent observer to investigate the allegations of abuse against aboriginal women in Val-D'or.

According to CTV News, 8 officers have been fired as local police are investigating allegations that officers from the Sureté du Québec physically and sexually abused aboriginal people in the region.

School schedules across Quebec were interrupted on Tuesday following a bomb threat putting staff and students' safety at risk.

According to CBC News, the majority of the provinces 71 pre-University schools were evacuated, searched, and temporarily shut down by authorities.

Two Montreal police officers were suspended without pay for threatening to tie a homeless man to a pole.  

According to CBC News, the incident took place in January of 2014, when the temperature was around minus 35 degrees.  

The victim was wearing a T-shirt and a pair of shorts while panhandling near a metro station.
A witness had recorded a video of the incident with a cell-phone and then posted it on YouTube.

The City of Montreal has purchased eight hectares of Angell Woods, in Beaconsfield, for $3.5 million.  This piece of land will be added to the protected l’Anse-a-l’Orme nature park.

According to CBC News, this property had been purchased by a developer for the same price in 2011, who had intended to convert an existing building into apartments, but the building has remained vacant.

Montreal mayor Denis Coderre has released a new budget for road improvements over the next three years.

According to the Montreal Gazette, the Coderre administration is planning to spend a total of 5.24 billion dollars on the capital works program.

Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre announced Wednesday that the city will not dump its sewage in the St Lawrence river, following a federal law.

According to the Montreal Gazette, Coderre warns that withholding the sewage could lead to breaks in the sewage system, which would cause long-term pollution to the river.

The Quebec Environment minister sides with Coderre, finding that the province had already fully examined the case.

No mention was made of where or when the sewage would be released.
