Discordia 07: The 2023 CREW Union Campaign

As of March 10th, 2025, Concordia Research and Education Workers Union (CREW Union)m have announced that their membership will be on strike on March 12th in pursuit of their first collective agreement with the university. This episode an exploration of the union's origins and it's ongoing fight for better working conditions for teaching and research assistants at Concordia.

Discordia 06: Concordia's "MeToo" Movement

MeToo comes to Concordia's campus in early 2018 and kicks off a long struggle between students and the administration over the university sexual harrassment and assault policy. This episode explores the origins of the fight and looks at how it has student organizing shifts over the years.

Discordia 05: The 2012 Quebec Student Strikes

On March 8th 2011, Quebec's provincial government announced a 75% tuition hike for Quebec students. The move triggered a massive 8 month long general strike. It broke records becoming the largest student strike in Quebec's history and the longest student strike in Canada.

On September 9th, 2002, Israeli Prime Minister Bejamin Netanyahu was scheduled to speak at Concordia's Hall building. The speech never happened. Protestors turned out in waves to block the event's attendees. Classes were cancelled, police pepper sprayed students, and 5 were arrested. It's now known as the Netanyahu "riot."

This episode is part 2 of that story.

Discordia 02: Radicalization of the CSU

In February 1999, the Concordia Student Union fails to get accredited as a legal representative of the student body because of low voter turnout. About a year and a half later they manage to get over 50% of students to vote for accreditation. Student movements against austerity and corporatism, as well as a push for food sovereignty have also started.

Discordia 01: The Sir George Williams Affair

In May 1968, six West Indian students at Sir George Williams University accused their biology professor Perry Anderson of discrimination. Inaction on the part of the university leads to the largest student occupation in Canadian history. The events culminate in January 1969 with the police beating a student to death, the arrest of 97 other students, a fire in the campus's computer lab, and $2 million of property damage.
