Alliteration Apocalypse: Metal March Begins at CJLO

Another March, and you know what that means... No? Oh, well, it means it's time once again for CJLO's Metal March, a celebration of all things loud. From punk to noise to black metal, we try to highlight it all until during this celebratory period.

This is our fifth year and boy do we have some pretty nifty things for you.

CJLO DJ SPOTLIGHT

Bonjour hi! I’m Clara, a visual journalism graduate diploma student at Concordia. I’m French, but did my bachelor’s degree at McGill and fell in love with Montreal, so after a 3-year hiatus, I am back for (hopefully) ever! My show is Never Techno for an Answer (sorry pun haters) – every Tuesday at 1PM, I take you on a journey to discover the latest music by international and local techno/trance/house DJs (with the occasional older song that I’m currently vibing with). If you ever come to CJLO while my show’s on, you’ll probably see me dancing in my seat ‘cause the beats are so good!

CJLO DJ SPOTLIGHT

My name is Danny Aubry, I co-host the radio show At the Movies for CJLO. On our show me and my co-host Remi Caron critique films, old and new.

CJLO DJ SPOTLIGHT

Who am I? I’m Orin Loft of The Noisy Loft, bringing you the loudest, angriest eclectic sonic mess this side of the Décarie!
What’s my show? Loud quasi-metal & hardcore. I take a look at some nostalgic bangers from the 00’s, contemporary and the local scene as a focal point. If it’s Mosh-able, I’m game.

CJLO DJ SPOTLIGHT

Hi! I'm Renita. I'm a musician, soundscaper, podcaster and lover of all things sound and storytelling. I'm also the host of my music talk show 5 Songs With. Each week, I play through 5 very different songs, and then explore the unexpected ways they connect. I play everything from classic rock to Bulgarian choral songs to Latin dance music and beyond on the show - you'd be surprised at some of the weird and wonderful ways things are interconnected. It's a rollercoaster of music history and trivia every week!

CJLO Top 100 of 2019

The year and the decade have come to an end and what does humanity have to show for it? Not much, besides some great music.

CJLO Celebrates its 20th Anniversary with Legal Vertigo and The Operators in a Sonically-Charged Celebration (Photo Gallery)

It was twenty years ago around this time when CJLO got its start. The year was 1999 - Jeopardy was at its peak and The Sixth Sense (I see dead people!) was just released. Montreal even had a baseball team and the Canadiens failed to make the playoffs, which was the closest the world came to ending despite all of the Y2K hysteria. Cher had a number one hit with  “Believe” and Britney Spears was doing it “One More Time.”

CJLO Top 100 of 2018

Hear ye, hear ye! Gather round for CJLO’s top hundo of 2018!

OK, technically it’s the CJLO top 101 due to the tie at #100 but you get the point… I know it’s already a week into this so-called ‘new year’, but we mustn’t dismiss the past so soon as to commit cultural amnesia! Before we delve boldly into this strange future, let’s take a moment to reflect on the year that was in music at CJLO 1690 AM.

Choir Boy: A Review

The first thing I noticed upon entering the Centaur Theatre to see “Choir Boy” was that almost everyone there was a senior citizen. The second thing I noticed was that they were playing Kendrick Lamar in the foyer.

I can’t say that I’m an avid musical-goer and therefore am not up to date with all the pre-show protocols, but this was not what I had been expecting. Kendrick was followed by Drake, who was followed by Frank Ocean. I heard a few confused murmurs throughout the crowd, and then the lights dimmed, and the performance began.
