The City of Montreal has purchased eight hectares of Angell Woods, in Beaconsfield, for $3.5 million.  This piece of land will be added to the protected l’Anse-a-l’Orme nature park.

According to CBC News, this property had been purchased by a developer for the same price in 2011, who had intended to convert an existing building into apartments, but the building has remained vacant.

Montreal mayor Denis Coderre has released a new budget for road improvements over the next three years.

According to the Montreal Gazette, the Coderre administration is planning to spend a total of 5.24 billion dollars on the capital works program.

Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre announced Wednesday that the city will not dump its sewage in the St Lawrence river, following a federal law.

According to the Montreal Gazette, Coderre warns that withholding the sewage could lead to breaks in the sewage system, which would cause long-term pollution to the river.

The Quebec Environment minister sides with Coderre, finding that the province had already fully examined the case.

No mention was made of where or when the sewage would be released.

A pair of Montreal men are facing charges of misrepresentation and exporting without a permit after selling American railway equipment to Iran.

According to CBC, sixty-seven-year-old Michael Allen and 75-year-old Hugo Dreckmann work at a locomotive company in St-Lazare.

Montreal's Biodome and Insectarium will undergo a $45 million renovation.

According to CBC News, the city's animal attraction will be closed from September 2016 to December 2017 for a $22 million restoration. New features will include a sizeable lobby and a larger Sub-Polar exposition.

A butterfly house that will be added to the $23 million Insectarium makeover.  It is set to close in 2018, shortly after the Montreal's 375th anniversary.

High school students on Montreal's West Island walked out of class on Wednesday to support their teachers who are working to rule.

According to CTV, students from 13 schools participated in the walkout at 9am. 

The students say they're tired of being caught in the middle of negotiations between teachers and the provincial government.

Teachers who are working to rule are not offering any extracurricular activities for students, including coaching sports teams and supervising field trips.

The students say they support their teachers in the strike but don't want to miss out on extracurriculars as a result.

Environment Canada has told the city of Montreal to suspend it's plan to pump eight billion litres of untreated water into the St. Lawrence river.

According to CTV News, Mayor Denis Coderre has accused the federal government of playing politics behind the backs of Montrealers by making such a request.

The owners of a mom-and-pop cupcake shop in Montreal were issued an order to redraw their chalkboard signs after receiving a letter from the Office Quebecois de la Langue Francaise to enlarge the French text on them.

According to CTV News, the owners of Cupcake Emmagination Bakery were frustrated by the demands of the OQLF, but will follow through with the changes because they don’t have the means to challenge them in court.

The bakery has until October 19th to change their signs.

Starting October 18th, untreated water waste will be dumped into the St. Lawrence River for seven days during a construction project on the Bonaventure Expressway.

According to the Montreal Gazette, to build a new chute to dispose of snow in the winter, construction workers need to shut down a sewer to work on it.
