At only 21 years-old, Michael Haze has already had quite a novel path. He was introduced to music through his church choir at a young age, and learned to play multiple instruments throughout his youth. Haze grew up everywhere, and living in countries across the globe created a rich backdrop for his music. Now based in Montreal, Haze’s debut EP MICKEY is an ode to R&B and an introduction to the artist’s music and life.

September 25th, 2019 marked the premiere of Being Black in Canada, a documentary film project that was part of the Montreal International Black Film Festival (MIBFF). As stated on the website, the festival was created in 2005 by the Fabienne Colas Foundation and is currently the largest Canadian film festival entirely dedicated to black realities from all four corners of the world. The project featured fifteen short films centered around telling black stories from the perspective of young black Canadian filmmakers based in Montreal, Toronto, and Halifax.

Under the name Dylarama, Mathias Pageau writes pop songs made from a collage of disparate styles that nevertheless blend naturally together.  The beginning of 2018 started off with a bang for Dylarama, with the release of his first EP for Lisbon Lux Records, entitled Certified Cutie, and the chance to perform in Paris with label-mates Paupière.  Dylarama kindly took the time to talk with CJLO about the roots of the project, filming a music video in New York City on two iPhones, and the dream of having his own clothing line.

Known for her DIY pop songs with an 80’s touch that harken back to the musical heritage of her French homeland, Cléa Vincent has released three EPs and one album of effervescent pop.  Vincent’s most recent EP however is a nod to the bossa nova and samba music that she loves, recording live in just two days.  CJLO had the pleasure of interviewing Vincent before her show at the M for Montreal festival last November.  The interview has been translated from its original French.
