The first time the name Sturgill Simpson crossed my radar was when the Good Doctor Stephen Weeds began championing him as the new honky tonk hero, and if there is one sure bet I've learned over the years it's that when the Good Doctor starts preaching about some new artist, it's best that you take the time and have a listen. Once again he was bang on and I was hooked immediately.

On Tuesday, April 26th, The Commonwealth Conundrum held special broadcast live from Montreal's Just For Laughs Festival! Rebecca Munroe from The Commonwealth Conundrum (Tuesdays at 6pm) hosted the show with Patricia Petit Liang from Fatal Attraction (Mondays at 11am)! Together, they conducted amazing surprise interviews with some of JFL's most charming performers! #JFLMTL

King Dave is based on a play by Alexandre Goyett. Director Daniel Grou (Podz) has kept the integrity of the production, as the hour and forty minutes is filmed in the style of a long single shot with a natural edit as we move from scene to scene. The audience follows Dave (Alexandre Goyette) on his misadventures and chance encounters that normally racially or violently charged, and meet a violent or abrupt ending. Dave spews with passion his inner character monologues to the audience, as the fourth wall is broken. There are only brief seconds where Dave comes back to the scene to interact with the characters of the act.
