Pokémon Sun and Moon: A Journey into the Seventh Generation

CJLO's Lazy Sunday Series

It should never be taken critically from people outside the Pokémon fandom when fans start tearing apart the designs for newly revealed Pokémon. It happens quite literally every generation. It's part of the adjustment process. As time goes on, we slowly get used to the sentient trash bags, keys, snow cones, triangle dragons and multi-headed hot-mess barnacles. Maybe less so that last one. Nonetheless, every gen has its oddballs and it's smash hits. Expect Gen 7 to be no different.

Three Must-See Shows at Nuits D'Afrique

Festival International Nuits d'Afrique has brought the world to Montreal music fans for three decades and is still going strong. The festival's rich history includes legendary performers, homegrown talent, fun workshops and family activities, and the most exciting outdoor celebrations of the summer at Quartier des spectacles. CBC journalist, musician, traveller, and CJLO "Grrls Groove" alumnus Emily Brass brings us her top-three must see performers at this year's festival!

Fantasia 2016: Live Long and Prosper!

My objective throughout this article is to describe and outline to you in great depth the fun-filled international film festival known as Fantasia. I shall go into great detail about what's involved in this festival and discuss why it would appeal to anyone and everyone. I will mention films I'd like to see while I am there, and why I want to see them. Afterwards I shall conclude with my personal opinion and insight on why I look forward to attend the event, and why I would recommend anyone to attend it.

Fantasia 2016: Third Time's the Charm

This my third time attending the Fantasia Film Festival, one of the crème de la crèmes of genre cinema. It is also the 20th anniversary of the festival. I have seen the triumphs of films like Boyhood, Frank, Tangerine, and Cop Car have been my past favourites of Fantasia. I was so excited for this festival reveal that I got up at 4 AM, 5:30 AM, and 6 AM when my alarm finally went off, even though the press conference was only at 11 AM. The festival has over 130 diverse features from North America and around the globe.

Montreal Comiccon: Day 3

Final day.

No convention is complete without dressing up in cosplay for at least one of the days. Today was my day. I'm used to dressing up for all three, but due to constraints this year, I had no time to make my costumes, so I went with a quick and simple solution: Sans the skeleton from Undertale. With my make-up on and hoodie zipped, I boarded the 105 and made my way to the Palais de Congres for the last time this weekend.

The first panel I got in to see was the Z'isle conference, hosted by Lateef Martin- who readers will remember from Day 2's panel on Diversity and Sexuality- and Isabelle Duguay.

Montreal Comiccon: Day 2

There was a consensus in the apartment: the Saturday schedule was a little full.

Unfortunately, due to conflicting start/end times for the Saturday panels and events, it meant missing out on a lot of things I had wanted to see, including:

Mythes et prejuges sur le cosplay, Q and A with Kate Mulgrew, International cosplay with Yaya and Kamui, Anime You Might Have Missed, Illuminez votre costume, Q and A with John Barrowman (which was delayed/cancelled in the end), the Cosplay RPG Battle and Internet Native Horror: Creepypasta.

I still got to see some good panels, though.
