The Swell Season

The Swell Season

If there's one thing that The Swell Season's Glen Hansard can be applauded for, it's his willingness to wear his emotions on his sleeve. Watching the Irish songsmith slowly seduce a crowd over a lovely evening using both his hard-luck, tough-love theatrics and witty, heartfelt stage banter was a rare sight to behold.

Porcupine Tree

Porcupine Tree

Porcupine Tree is a band that makes you forget that there is a world outside the concert hall.

The reason? Well let me start off right away with the fact that Porcupine Tree is a phenomenal live act.  I, like many, am not well versed when it comes to their music, so I enlisted the help of my good friend, Colin MacFarlane, who has been a loyal follower of Porcupine Tree, to accompany me on this melodic adventure and they did not fail to enthrall me.

For The Mathematics Live @ CJLO

Ottawa post hardcore quintet For the Mathematics spent the afternoon at the CJLO studios July 23, 2005 to record 5 songs, 3 of which were brand spankin’ new.  The session took a long time to record, and the reason was that 2/5 of the band didn’t show up…turns out Clayton and James, who were driving separately (due to their van being out of commission, the guys were traveling in 2 cars), ended up at the right civic number for the station, but on Sherbrooke EAST…not WEST.  For those of you not from Montreal, that’s literal

Engine Down Live @ CJLO

Richmond, VA’s Engine Down dropped by château CJLO July 31, 2004, a Saturday morning, at 10am…no joke.  That’s dedication, people.  Funny story, this was the first sorta promotional thing Lookout! Records ever did with the band (it was a couple months before their new album, their first for Lookout! was to be released). Our pal Erin over at Lookout! (sidenote: she's also part of the awesome Bratmobile) managed to just catch them before they crossed the border into Canada, where their cellphones woulda went out.

controller.controller Live @ CJLO

Toronto’s death disco post punk quintet controller.controller rolled into the CJLO studios on a dark Saturday evening, October 30, 2004, to record 4 songs for Hooked on Sonics.  One of the easiest sessions we ever had to record, they came in, set up, and ran through all four songs in no time, with no extra takes.
