At the Movies Fantasia Recap - Week 3!

The Final Lap

On the last day of the 20th edition of the Fantasia Film Festival, I knew that it was time to hustle as many films in as possible. Even though I am in the rookie number of films viewed this year, I am content with every film the festival has bestowed upon my eyes. I hoped to participate in four screenings on the last day.

IleSoniq 2016 Photo Diary

Remember the first ÎleSoniq? Tiny stages, a little chaotic, and a lot of fun? Coming home from my third year of attending, the place is barely recognizable compared to what it used to be. But one thing still remains: it's still one hell of a lot of fun. Excellent lineup, excellent people, and even with Heavy Montreal going on at the same time, excellent planning. I took inspiration from the lineup of the festival, which always seems to be exploring new perspectives in dance music, and took a look at the festival through a different lens.

Eclipse 2016 - An Interview with David Starfire

Sitting at the beach on a hot summer day in Sainte-Thérèse-de-la-Gatineau, Thinkbox sat with composer and mutli-instrumentalist David Starfire during Eclipse Festival to chat about travelling, collaborating on music with cultures from around the world, and the spirituality of today's youth.

Thinkbox: This is coming to you from the beach at Eclipse Festival. I am sitting here with David Starfire.

David Starfire: Hey, How's it going?

At the Movies Fantasia Recap - Week Two!

Remi Long Run

This three-week period is already taken it's toll on me as I struggle to gain every morsel of relaxation and shut eye. However, I enter the Fantasia marathon this week (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday) and hope to get in two or three films per day. What can I say to myself as I find my inter movie geek strength. Chin up Scotty! You're going to get beamed into the world of Fantasia.

OSHEAGA 2016 - Three days, two nights, and over 100 bands!

As someone who's been to Osheaga five summers in a row, it's safe to say that, when it comes to this specific music festival, I've been there, done that. From the anticipation of arriving at Parc Jean-Drapeau on that first Friday, to the elation of running from show to show all weekend long, without forgetting the desperation of trying to get the hell off the island on that last Sunday night, I've seen it all – and then some. So, when I found out that I would be the lucky CJLO-er covering this year's festival, I was quite skeptical about how much fun I could still actually have during what would be my sixth weekend among a crowd of 135,000 boisterous attendees.

Eclipse 2016 - Circle of Light

How do I condense last weekend into under 1000 words? I guess I'll start at the beginning...

Sturgill Simpson @ Theatre Corona - August 4, 2016

Presented by Greenland and Evenko

The first time the name Sturgill Simpson crossed my radar was when the Good Doctor Stephen Weeds began championing him as the new honky tonk hero, and if there is one sure bet I've learned over the years it's that when the Good Doctor starts preaching about some new artist, it's best that you take the time and have a listen. Once again he was bang on and I was hooked immediately.

At the Movies Fantasia Recap - Week One!

Fantasia 2016

During the first week of Fantasia, the real world hindered my abilities to run the Fantasia marathon, best sprinted by Satty (Shibuya Crossing) and Angelica (BVST). I did participate in two screenings, though!

The Machine Stops Meets Woulg: Interview with Greg Debicki

Festival season is in full swing, and just around the corner is the five-day psytrance and techno extravaganza known as Eclipse Festival. It takes place this year in Sainte-Thérèse-de-la-Gatineau, where all will be surrounded by beautiful scenery, but most of all, by beautiful music. I had the opportunity to talk to Montreal-based composer and new media artist Woulg last week about his music and his perception of the psychedelic scene. Initially I told him the interview was going to be twenty minutes long and we ended up talking for almost an entire hour.
