Concert Reviews

Hey Rosetta! @ Le Cabaret du Mile End

To promote the release of their third album, Seeds, Hey Rosetta! (exclamation mark mandatory) is doing a North American tour. They sold out Montreal’s Le Cabaret du Mile End on Friday, February 18th.

Biffy Clyro + Moving Mountains @ La Sala Rossa

It was a mighty cold evening on February 15th, so let’s just say that I was shocked beyond belief when I entered La Sala Rossa to see Biffy Clyro.  Why, you ask? Well it was weird seeing two guys sporting nothing from the waist up.  Then I remembered: ah yes, Biffy Clyro almost always come on stage topless for almost every show.  However, unlike Biffy Clyro, these guys should have covered it up – eeeesshhh.

Escape The Fate @ Club Soda

Yeah... so when I asked to review Escape The Fate my only knowledge of them was the two music videos I had watched 15 minutes earlier (I had taken some time to look up the openers). They looked/sounded like I'd hate 'em, but I was pretty sure that I'd have nothing better to do on a Sunday night in February, so I thought I might as well go and get my hate on.

Two months pass...

The Radio Dept. @ Petit Campus

It’s strange how you remember the exact moment when you got into a band. In some cases, I think of people that got me into certain bands. For example:

The Decemberists + Wye Oak @ L'Olympia

WHAT? You missed the Decemberists show? Awwwwww nuts!

Yes, the tickets were pretty damn expensive (35$). Yes, it was cold as hell… and yes, I nearly destroyed a defective parking meter outside the Olympia theatre. If you saw me swearing and kicking machine #Q045, please don’t think any less of me; I was having a “case of the Mondays”.

Finger Eleven @ Threatre Corona

Alright, so like most people I first got a taste of Finger Eleven in the mid 90s.  I heard "Above" off of Tip and I was sold, and after The Greyest of Blue Skies came out I really started to follow them heavily.  I managed to catch them for a whopping one dollar and five cents at a show in my home town that was put on by a local radio station.  The show was fantastic, and after that I even made a trek three hours away to catch them in Pittsburgh.

Tokyo Police Club +Two Door Cinema Club + P.S. I Love You @ Club Soda

There I was on a Sunday night, sitting in one of the side balconies at Club Soda and thinking, "who does a show on a Sunday night?" Isn't Sunday night meant for rest after a long weekend? I guess I'm getting too old. Or is it just the fatigue of partying all weekend? It felt weird since usually I take pictures at concerts but for a change I was there to review the show.

Badfish @ Club Soda

As a Sublime tribute band, Rhode Island-based Badfish takes on the tricky task of satisfying diehard fans of the legendary 90's group from California and its late, great lead singer, Bradley Nowell.

Dandy Warhols @ Le National

It hadn’t been that long since the Dandy Warhols came to visit us here in Montreal, but judging by the size of the crowd at le National the other night, their fans seem to never get enough of this West Coast band.

Entering the charming National theatre, you immediately felt a surreal emotion looking at the stage. This was due in part to the giant Chinese round paper lanterns that hovered above the stage and little did we know at this early time, how they would compliment the band in fantastical fashion.
