Pop Montreal: Ford & Lopatin + Sleep Over + d'Eon + CFCF

I arrived before the show to check out the venue, which is a very cool open space, and had been decorated for ArtPop. There were some interesting installations including a pile of spectrographs and radio equipment, as well as a stage setup featuring taxidermied wolves, and an owl, lit with a black light. The open space and big sound made it a great venue for the show that was about to take place.

Kyuss Lives! + The Sword + Monstro @ L'Olympia

First thing's first: This was Kyuss. Forget what was printed on the ticket or put up on the marquee – Kyuss Lives!? Nope, Kyuss, plain and simple.

Osheaga 2011 - Day 2

Saturday’s showcase kicked off with a brief set by Montreal’s punk rock vets, The 222s. The set was plagued with poor sound, but they still had the early birds' toe-tappin’ to songs like “I love Susan” and “Academic Drop”. They were followed by Atlanta’s Manchester Orchestra, who had the first solid following of the day. Though the volume of their guitars was high and their energy was impressive, I wasn’t overly blown away.

Osheaga 2011 - Day 1

Flash forward to Saturday afternoon (Osheaga, Day 2) at Parc Jean Drapeau. DFA 1979 drummer/vocalist Sebastien Grainger paused between songs, and asked the crowd an important question: “Does Eminem still hate his mom?”

The answer: Yes.

Nuits D'Afrique:Grupo Fantasma

The 25th anniversary of the Festival Nuits D’Afrique is turning out to be one of the most party oriented ones that I have ever witness. Over the years, I have attended and taken part in some of the festivals; they were all entertaining and fun, but the 2011 edition of the festival stands out as a marriage of new musical ideas from all the bands that I have seen so far.
