Thor Giveaway

This coming Wednesday is going to be epic on BVST, as Angelica (with special guests) get deep into Norse mythology and other Scandinavian delights (viking metal, anyone?) in anticipation of the feature film Thor. There will be giveaways, there will be fun, and as usual, there will be intentional & unintentional hilarity. Prepare your best story about a) Thor the Norse god, b) Thor, the comic book hero, or c) Thor, the Canadian heavy metal personality, and call in! Remember, the hammer (of the gods) comes down hard this coming Wednesday, April 27th, from 7 to 9 pm, right here on CJLO!

Denis A

Denis has been a valued member of CJLO for sometime now and explaining how much we appreciate him would take more than just a DJ of the Week post. Denis is a DJ who not only host his show but can be counted on to help out in any and all situations. His humble beginnings began as a 3rd co-host on The Siamese Libertines and since then he has set the bar with his own show Dirty Work. Fresh off his Robert Vairo Award for Broadcasting Excellence win; Denis was sent a questionnaire for his DJ of the week post. Here are the results

What is your DJ alias? & what are its origins?
"Denis A" is really what happened when I wrote my name once and got lazy about halfway through.

Diego Award Winners

Another exciting CJLO Gala has come and gone. It was a night of joliaty, revelry, and smoke machines. Below is a list of this year's winners.

The Robert Vairo Award for Broadcasting Excellence: Dirty Work

Ryan B. Arditi Lifetime Acheivement Award: Josh Mocle

The Welcome to the Jungle Award for Best New Show: Midnight Love Affair

The CBC Award for On Air Professionalism: Radio Fun

Naturally 7 @ Corona Theatre

Heard of a cappella vocal music? All the vocal nerds that just chirruped kindly ignore this bit. To the rest, allow me to educate you. “A cappella” means vocal music without instruments. While originally a classical term, it's commonly found in styles like doo wop, barbershop and, more recently, pop covers ('Glee' and 'The Sing-Off' both feature a cappella music).

Lachlan Fletcher

When Lachlan Fletcher came to CJLO he had a vision for his – then desert rock themed – show The Subplot; have a theme and make it fun. He did just that and went on to become a dedicated volunteer at the station. When he wasn’t hosting his show, he would be recording a band and when he wasn’t doing that, he could be heard reading the news. In 2009, Lachlan was nominated for CJLO Diego Award for Best Radio Voice and won the award for Best New Show.
