According to his former manager, Arturo Gatti’s death wasn’t a suicide. Pat Lynch said the result of a ten month private investigation will be released at the end of the month.

Montreal’s late boxing champion was found dead in July 2009. He was vacationing with his family in Brazil at the time. Gatti’s widow was initially arrested for his murder but later released. Police concluded he hung himself from a wooden staircase column in their rented apartment.

Hardcore Canadian rockers Alexisonfire have called it quits almost ten years after the release of their first album in 2002.

Frontman George Pettit announced the split on their website. He cited the need to replace two band members as a main reason why they parted ways.

Singer-guitarist Dallas Green has gathered acclaim in recent years with his side project City and Colour. As a result, Pettit wrote, Green had announced his intention to leave the band a year ago.

Warren Jeffs, the leader of a Texas polygamist sect has been found guilty of sexually assaulting two young girls. 

Jeffs made news when in 2008 Texas police raided his compound and took away over 450 children. The move came after allegations of sexual and physical abuse. He was put on the FBI’s top 10 most wanted list for a separate crime in May 2006. 

Quebec’s transport minister has dismissed concerns that the Ville-Marie Tunnel is still at risk of collapsing. 

Sam Hamad confirmed that additional safety measures have been installed for now while the engineers carry out their work. Hamad says the Ville-Marie tunnel could be opened as soon as Monday. He promises not to open it without a guarantee from an expert engineer.

A report claims that the Ville Marie tunnel collapse might have been caused by construction work. Transport Minister Sam Hamad confirmed work was being done exactly where the ceiling collapsed on Sunday. 

Laco Construction was awarded a contract of nearly ten million dollars in June to repair the expressway. It has been reported that the company made an error while rebuilding a support wall. No one from the construction company based in Rivière des Prairies is available to comment on the news report. 

Fans of Arcade Fire are in for a special treat. The Montreal-based band will give a free concert during the Pop Montreal Festival. This will be held in the Quartier des spetacles on September 22. It will be the group's first concert since winning a Grammy last winter. The band says they wouldn't exist without Montreal. The concert is their way of saying, "a big thank you to the beautiful city we love so much."

A slab of concrete fell onto the Ville Marie Expressway on Sunday morning. A beam fell onto the eastbound side of the highway around 9 a.m. No one was injured.

The Ville Marie tunnel is used by more than 100,000 cars every weekday.

The tunnel will remain closed between De La Montagne and Panet streets.

Engineers are studying the structure and need to determine whether emergency repairs are required. They are also trying to figure out what caused the collapse.

The head of the panel mandated to review the psychiatric state of Anders Behring Breivik says the suspect is unlikely to declared insane.

Dr. Tarjei Rygnested is the head of the Norwegian Board of Forensic Medecine. He’s also at the head of the board that will review Breivik’s psychiatric evaluation, the man accused of killing 77 people in Norway on July 22nd.
