Chairs, Vices & Versa, November 28

Vice & Versa was the perfect setting for last night’s 5 à 7 performance. One can chat, sip any of their 32 beers on draft, and munch on deliciously pretty burgers or appetizers with friends. But this is not a review of Vice & Versa, but rather the band who played the quaint venue, Chairs.

Tegan & Sara Trade in Their Guitars for Synthesizers

I didn’t know what I was getting myself into when I was waiting in line for the Tegan and Sara show at Metropolis. I was familiar with their album Sainthood and actually saw them open for Paramore on their Honda Civic Tour in 2009. Since then, their sound and style have done a complete 180. When I saw that they were coming to Montreal, I bought a ticket without even thinking. I haven’t listened to any of their new stuff besides their hit song “Closer” from their last album Heartthrob. Now, touring and playing material from their eighth record Love You To Death I knew nothing and no one going.

Pokemon Sun and Moon: A Journey into the Seventh Generation

After 22 teaser trailers, multiple release updates, and dozens of "confirmed" and unconfirmed leaks, it is now mere WEEKS away until the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon. With that said, it's time to look back at the most common speculations that were made and how well they held up. Before we do, there are some recent updates that cannot be ignored.

Au Contraire - An Interview with Philip Silverberg

Au Contraire Film Festival 2016

On Tuesday, October 18th, CJLO's At the Movies (With Iconic Sounds) had the opportunity to interview Philip Silverberg, who is one of the organizers of the Au Contraire Film Festival. The fourth edition of the festival starts next week, and strives to achieve awareness and advocacy for mental health issues. The festival runs from October 25th until October 28th. One thing is to note that Mr. Silverberg expressed is the distinction that this festival is more than your regular film festival.

Pokemon Sun and Moon: A Journey into the Seventh Generation

There is officially only about a month left until the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon, and Nintendo has kept up with rolling out reveal after reveal. September alone was chock-full of new Pokémon, Z-Moves, new characters and exciting new features, but the first week of October held one of the most anticipated announcements: the second evolutions of the starter Pokémon. There have been theories, speculations, hypotheses, concept drawings and all kinds of other synonyms for guesses towards what our adorable little owl, smooth looking feline and awkward little clown seal would grow into.

Next Music from Tokyo vol. 9 - An Interview with Steven Tanaka

Few events excite Canadian fans of Japanese music as much as the Next Music from Tokyo tours. On Saturday October 1st, CJLO's own Japanese indie music specialist DJ Lawrell of Fukubukuro (Sundays @ 11 AM - 12 PM) called and chatted with Next Music from Tokyo organizer Steven Tanaka, just in time for the ninth edition of the tour. The Montreal show will be tonight, at Le Divan Orange, at 7 PM!

Devin Townsend Project + Between the Buried and Me + Fallujah @ Corona Theatre

September 18th, 2016. It's the weekend, and you know what that means. Lots of shows! Attending the Double Experience show at the Pioneer in the West Island on Saturday night set the standard high for the next day, which was the Devin Townsend Project and Between the Buried and Me at the Corona Theatre.

#CJLOgoesPOP Top 5 Moments!

Another edition of POP Montreal has come to a close, and it was a good 'un, folks. As the CJLO team grapples with things like "sleep debt" and "real life", we thought we'd take a moment to reflect on some of our favourite moments of the festival.

As a poor University student living in my first apartment way back in the mid-nineties, I spent many a weekend watching old VHS tapes rented from the "cult film" section at Movieland on Saint-Catherine Ouest. 'Member VHS? Anyway, one fateful Friday night I picked up a faded old box that featured a frightening woman-creature in a red dress and big bouffant hairdo on the cover.
