(Interview) Image + Nation Film Festival Programming Director Kat Setzer Discusses its 33rd Edition

"At The Movies recently had a chance to talk to Kat Setzer, programming director of the Image + Nation film festival. The festival's 33rd edition is going virtual this year and takes place from Nov. 19 to Dec. 6. Remi and Kat also talked about Image + Nation's virtual Halloween horror film festival, which ran from from Oct. 29 to Nov. 1. Image + Nation promotes a diversity of LGBTQ+ voices showcasing the evolution of queer cinema. More information can be found at image-nation.org.

The 49th edition of the Festival du nouveau cinéma took place this year from Oct. 7-31. It was sad to see theatres close down again on Oct. 1 because these festivals work great on a big screen with an audience.


Uncovering Exorcist’s Mystery Horror Metal Album

Back in 1980s, a mystery album titled Nightmare Theatre (1985) dropped in record stores around North America and parts of Europe, shocking those who were lucky enough to grab a first pressing. The band responsible was Exorcist, but they certainly weren’t a “band” in any sense of the word. They didn’t play any shows, didn’t do any interviews, nor did they release any follow-up material.

After moving to Montreal and performing under the stage name Un Blonde, the persona Yves Jarvis was borne in 2018. Throwback Tuesday: Animation Filmmaker Chris Dainty Discusses His New Film "Shannon Amen" with At The Movies Host Remi Caron

For At The Movies Reviews on location Remi was able to chat with Chris Dainty about his short animated feature Shannon Amen being showcased at this year's Festival Du Nouveau Cinéma. Using Animation (2D, Stop motion, and Icemation) along with archival footage, Dainty brings his friend Shannon Jamison’s story along with her art to life. Remi chatted about the animation techniques used to tell the story, as well as Dainty's process of emotions while making the film.
