More people sentenced to death in Egypt

The Egyptian judge presiding over a mass trial of Muslim Brotherhood supporters has pronounced the death sentence on all 683 defendants.

According to the Toronto Star, the verdict has created widespread international condemnation from governments and rights groups.

The same judge also delivered a final verdict on a previous trial of 529 alleged militants and supporters of ousted President Mohammed Morsi by upholding 37 death sentences and commuting the others to life imprisonment.

 

Two women in Southern Ontario arrested

Police arrested two women in Southern Ontario for breaking into the homes of people who were attending funerals.

The two women, 26 and 45, apparently used social media and obituaries to find potential victims.

The CBC reported that over 12 homes from Hamilton to Waterloo were robbed.

The pair managed to steal over $100,000 in items and cash before getting caught.

 

New metro cars for Montreal

The new AZUR Metro car was unveiled on Monday. 

According to CBC News, Montreal Mayor Dennis Coderre explained that these new Metro cars would replace the current blue and white cars that have been in service since 1966.

The new set of 468 AZUR Metro cars are expected to revitalize Montreal’s Metro system.

These new cars include features such as wireless access and improved comfort.

If all go accordingly, the new trains will be in service by the end of 2014.

Quebec announces new ministers under Liberal gov't

Quebec's newly elected Premier unveiled his new cabinet on Wednesday.

According to CBC News, 26 Liberal MNAs will take various ministerial positions.

Philippe Couillard has named Carlos Leitao as the Minister of Finance, while Gaétan Barrette will lead The Health and Social Services Ministry.

For Public Security, Lisa Thériault will take office - making her the first woman in the province's political history to serve that position.
