Man, soggy autumns make my bones itch to run through the misty woods by moonlight, naked as a jaybird and drunk as a skunk. Fortunately, we as a species have devised many canny outlets for such urges, and so on Saturday, October 18th I brought my primal hindbrain on down to the Corona Theatre for an evening of folk-metal fun times. The fact that I came back alive should not be taken as disparagement.

Ah yes, the first day of the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City. First on the agenda, walk from SoHo up to NYU to register and pick up my badge. I never get over the strange juxtaposition of the old, I guess converted, church next to a large 12 storey or so building. Oh New York, you so crazy.
In this new series, the CJLO Magazine investigates subcultures and various "cores". First up, Sarah Stupar from Best of the West discusses the origins of Normcore.
Wondering what to do during the CMJ Music Marathon this week? Look no further! Below is DJ SugarNene's top picks for the best CMJ events happening in New York City this week complete with food for your belly, and rad DJ sets and live music for your ears!
A station's community presence bears just as much importance as the music it bumps. The CJLO Mixtape Club presents even non-radio members with a place to discuss music and share mixes on Facebook, but also holds in-person meet-ups to hear mixtapes in the flesh. If hearing your next-door neighbor's mixtape of dubstep and Pearl Jam doesn't inspire you, CJLO posts mixtapes curated by DJs and staff on its blog.
Presented by POP Montreal, Cult MTL, and the Montreal International Jazz Festival
As an avid fan of biographies and autobiographies about some of the world's most interesting people (Martin Luther King, Sidney Poitier, Winston Churchill, to name a few), one can only imagine my joy when I found out that I had secured some tickets to the Ronnie Spector show at The Rialto Theatre on September 19, 2014. Ronnie Spector was billed as part of the 2014 edition of POP Montreal, and that news was in all the papers, both mainstream and local.
Montreal quartet Heat brought their early 80s NYC style jangle to the CJLO studios to perform live on Hooked on Sonics. Hot off the heels of their debut EP, and already getting a lot of attention - even down south and across the pond - the band posted up in The Oven and performed two songs from the recording as well as two brand spankin' new tunes.
If you're a fan of metal, no doubt you know that Brave Concerts International is bringing Deicide, Inquisition, and Abysmal Dawn to the Corona Theatre on Friday, October 10th. Coming along for the ride are the fine Greek gentlemen from Septicflesh. Andrew from Grade A Explosives did an interview with the band last time they were in town, so in order to prepare you for their set, he's going to air it on his show this Sunday.
Blue Skies Turn Black, I Love Neon, and yours truly CJLO 1690 AM present the Constantines this Saturday, October 4th at Le Belmont (4483 Saint-Laurent). The band is back after a four-year hiatus, and this is the reunion show to end all reunion shows! Come on out and celebrate the 11th anniversary of their sophomore album, Shine a Light, and get sparkly with special guests Cousins and your friends from CJLO...
