Black Muses

Place-des-Arts is a very important arts center for this city and as the largest arts complex in Canada it is well renowned and respected. So its no small thing that the Montreal's Black History Month roundtable and Place-des-Arts have been collaborating for the past four years to bring Black-centric expositions to the public in the espace culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme during Black History Month. This year's exposition was named Black Muses and featured 12 Black female musicians who have greatly impacted Canadian music and paved the way for their sistren.


Daughter @ Théâtre Corona

The indie folk band Daughter was in town on Saturday, March 5th, returning for a second time to a sold out Corona Theatre. They met an enthusiastic crowd as they took the stage; filling the intimate setting provided by this unique venue with their slow, melodic make you feel things kinda music. Lead by the stunning vocals of lead singer Elena Tonra, fans were immediately captivated by every sound the London, England based trio produced. Elena could barely get a word in between the cheers of adoring fans after their opening song "How" letting out a nervous giggle and thanking everyone for being there. 


The Atom! Saturday on Brave New Jams

Brave New Jams has the pleasure to announce that Montreal band The Atom will be making a special live appearance in the CJLO studio, The Oven, Saturday March 12th. The Atom features fuzz laden guitars and echo drenched vocal harmonies tightly arranged within short and melodic, hook filled songs. The band consists of Allan Glashan (guitar and vocals), Paul Burke (bass and vocals), and Paul Frey (guitar and vocals). Brave New jams is on Saturday nights 10pm till midnight.


CJLO Goes Metal for Metal March

The first ever Metal March is upon us, and that can mean only one thing... once again, some of CJLO's staple shows have thrown their previous format right out the window and embraced their darkest side. As part of their rebrand and relaunch, these shows have unveiled brand new logos that embody their new sounds. 


Tonight @ 6pm on Champions of the Local Scene: Revolution They Wrote Festival

Coming up at 6pm on a special episode of Champions of the Local Scene, we are talking to Revolution They Wrote- Concordia's Short Works Feminist Theatre Festival. RTW’s second annual edition is a 4-day festival taking place March 17-20, which aims to encourage dialogue about representations of gender, race, and sexuality in the theatre; by presenting four short feminist theatrical works in a festival package. The 2016 iteration of the festival will also add a visual arts element.  


Today on Slax Trax: A special session with Nightwitches

Today, as part of the larger programming of Metal March, Montreal doom duo Nightwitches will be coming into Slax Trax to perform live.  Host Zak Slax will be talking with them and they'll be laying down some tunes for everyone to slowly bang their heads to.  So tune in today from 5 - 6PM for loudness, and stayed tune for more themed shows during Metal March.


Metal Monday - Top 10 Albums of 2016 So Far

DJ Philliam from Turn On The Darkness (Tuesdays 2 PM) narrows down his picks for the top 10 albums of 2016 (so far!) for this edition of Metal Monday.

 

10. Varg - Das Ende aller Lügen. Was not really expecting this at all. This album blew me away, knowing that this blends elements of modern metal/Viking death metal and Metalcore? Yeah you heard me right! Lots of catchy and head bangin' tunes in this album. It's definitely worth a listen.
