Counting has begun as much anticipated elections in Egypt have closed the polls.
The BBC reports that the Muslim Brotherhood’s candidate is leading according to their own estimates. The frontrunners along with the Brotherhood are two former Mubarak era officials and the former head of the Arab League.
Counting began as soon as the thirteen-thousand polling stations throughout Egypt closed on Thursday. In a prediction by the Brotherhood they say that they have garnered the most votes. Two-hundred thirty six polling stations have reported results so far, with full results to be announced as late as this Tuesday.
If no candidate picks up at least fifty percent of the vote then the top two will compete in a run-off next month.
