Shooting in Ottawa

The nation's capital was thrown into chaos Wednesday when an armed gunman shot and killed a member of the Canadian Forces and then began shooting on parliament hill.

According to the CBC, shooter Michael Zehaf-Bibeau was killed in the Centre block by a parliamentary guard.

The building and the surrounding area was on lockdown for the better part of the day while police handled the situation.

Victim Cpl. Nathan Cirillo was pronounced dead after being rushed by ambulance away from the scene at the Canadian War Memorial.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper addressed the nation live Wednesday evening, calling the shooting an act of terror.
