Montreal Police unveil new armoured vehicle

The Montreal Police force has unveiled its latest innovation, which carried a price tag of $360 000 and has been in the making for the last 11 years.

The Montreal Gazette reported on Thursday that the SWAT team arm of the SPVM showed off a new armoured vehicle at a press conference on Wednesday

Francois Houle, the commander of the Montreal force’s SWAT team that the vehicle would be used in tense situations to protect officers and citizens within a perimeter when a person is using firearms.

Major police forces across Canada, such as, the SQ, Ontario Provincial Police and  the RCMP already have access to this technology.

Asked if this vehicle would be pressed into service during demonstrations such as last year’s student uprisings, Houle responded saying that it would only be used where protection from ballistic weapons is needed.
