It seems the optimism for mining projects in Quebec is rising.
According to the Gazette, a survey conducted by the Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton accounting firm shows the optimism for mining in the province
With new mining royalties kicking in, Quebec's natural resources minister, Martine Ouellet wouldn't announce her plans for the industry just yet. She also wouldn't comment on a proposal to overhaul Quebec's mining act either.
While she didn't go into detail, Ouellet proposed in the National Assembly, a five per cent charge of each tonne of iron ore mined in the province, plus a tax on profits. That would bring the total tax take to thirty per cent.
Quebec's mining sector has been booming since the previous Liberal government opened up the Northern portion of the province for mining projects.
