FECQ & FEUQ proposal doesn't wow Beauchamp

Tuition Hike Protest-0403The FECQ and FEUQ made their first counter-proposal, but it failed to impress.

According to CTV News, Education Minister Line Beauchamp called the proposal “disappointing”. She said in a press conference that the groups’ position had not changed and will not change its stance on tuition hikes.

The associations announced their proposal at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon. Students who are against the counter-proposal were in attendance as well wearing masks and not aligning themselves with a known association.

The duo feels that the Charest Government’s plan to improve student loan systems and make payments according to income would scare off future students. They also believe their plan will help save the government money rendering a tuition hike useless.

The offer includes 7 crucial points including a freeze on tuition at 2012 rates and a committee to monitor management of universities.

The CLASSE is expected to present their counter-proposal to the government later in the week.
