Northern Lights is Red Bull Radio's Local Spotlight show broadcasting forward thinking, new Canadian music. The show focuses on uncovering new talent, with artist features, guest interviews and DJ sets, uncovering Canadian artists and their stories. Listeners can expect new musicthat can be raw, unproven, and mind expanding.
Produced and hosted by filmmaker / former MTV News correspondent Johnny Hockin, Northern Lights focuses on diversity of genre and point of view, spotlighting artists that don't have a voice on mainstream radio, operate as DIY projects, or simply push the envelope of Canadian music.
Artists and topics that will be explored this year include: female techno producers with Toronto’s CL, the impact of DIY music venues, the resurgence of Cassettes as a format, and Windsor Ontario’s unsung and crucial role in the early days of the global techno phenomenon.
Red Bull Radio is the radio station of the Red Bull Music Academy. For nearly two decades the Academy has been travelling the world as a series of music workshops, exhibits, live performances and more.
Lecturers have included Erykah Badu, Bob Moog, Nile Rodgers, Steve Reich, Laurie Anderson, Brian Eno, ?uestlove, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Debbie Harry, D'Angelo and Moodymann, just to name a few.
