So it's been a week since the passing of Ronnie James Dio, and I'm only now really able to express how deeply saddened I am by this turn of events. Like a lot of Dio's long time fans, I thought we was going to beat the cancer he was diagnosed with last year, record another album with Heaven & Hell, tour the world and live for another hundred years. Unfortunately, it's a week later and the reality is that the metal world has truly lost one of its giants, a forefather of the genre we all know and love. Over the next few weeks on my show, I'll be taking a piece of Dio's career and going into great depth (this week is the early ELF albums and the first Rainbow offering), so I won't go into a biography here. I will say that I've personally been touched by Dio's music more than...

So a few weeks have passed since the death of Type O Negative frontman Peter Steele, and I'm listening to "Bloody Kisses" in its entirety for the first time since it happened. I don't intend on writing you a full band biography or act like a creepy fan who pretends he was a personal friend. I do hope that once everything's said and done that Type O Negative's immense contribution to Heavy Metal isn't overshadowed by all the ridiculous nonsense that seemed to sometimes derail them--- the centerfolds, the stints in drug rehab/prison, and the accusations of misogyny/racism/nazism from people who've never listened to their albums. Then again, they thrived on their black humour and loved to make light of nearly everything and seemed to get a giddy thrill out of pissing as many people off as...

Well, I've finally decided to step into the 21st Century and get onboard with this whole "new media" thing that all the kids are into these days! So here it is--- my personal Blog for THE ALMIGHTY RIFF- HELL BENT FOR METAL! Get in the habit of paying me a visit often as I'll be sure to have tons of goodies for all you heavy metal maniacs out there. From CD and concert reviews, to rants about the current metal scene, to in depth features on the classics and should-of-been classics, this will be a dumping ground for all the metal rumblings that take place in the dark recesses of my mind. And hell, maybe one of these days I'll finally figure out what the hell a "tweet" is.

Hope to see you here often!

Keep it heavy! \m/(>.<)\m/
